Dr. Vaughn Calhoun

Vaughn A. Calhoun, Ed.D, is an associate consultant with 122 Consulting Group. A strong advocate for student success, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups, Dr. Calhoun has more than 10 years of experience in higher education administration and teaching. Currently, he is the Assistant Vice President of Academic Innovation at Rowan University. In this role he is responsible for identifying, launching and supporting educational initiatives that reflect Rowan’s mission to provide access, affordability, quality and serve as an economic engine to the region. Charged with creating new academic pathways, Dr. Calhoun is facilitating strategic partnerships designed to deliver online programming at scale to support non-traditional adult students. He is also forging critical relationships with businesses, government and education partners to support the university’s mission. 

Prior to Rowan University, Dr. Calhoun served as the Director of Business programs at Becker College (Worcester, Mass) where he was responsible for the creation of dozens of courses and four academic bachelor degree programs; Bachelors of Science in E-Sport Management, Bachelors of Science in Emerging Media and Content Creation, Bachelors of Science in Sport Management, and a Bachelors of Science in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship. 

Dr. Calhoun has previously taught courses at University of Massachusetts - Boston, University of Maryland – Global Campus, Bentley University, Anna Maria College, Becker College, as well as graduate courses at Providence College. Calhoun is a passionate higher education advocate who has offered commentary for various media outlets including, The Huffington Post, Black Enterprise, The Well and, Fox25 News Boston, and PBS affiliate WGBY. 

Dr. Calhoun prides himself on navigating difficult conversations particularly as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion. At Becker College, Dr. Calhoun served as the chair of the college’s diversity committee. In this capacity, he led the creation and implementation of the campus climate assessment, analysis as well as recommended an action plan. Nationally, Dr. Calhoun serves on NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship grant selection committee. Here he reviews and helps to select NCAA institutions seeking to fill their diversity and inclusion gap. 

Dr. Calhoun is a graduate of Rutgers University earning his B.S. in Administration of Justice, where he also participated as a full scholarship football player earning three varsity letters. Dr. Calhoun continued his education by earning his Masters of Public Policy and Administration from California State University Long Beach; followed by his Doctorate of Education from Northeastern University (Boston, Mass).
